Santrans & Public Works

Introduction

Welcome to the Public Works Agency

The public works department manages more than 50,000 miles of highways, freeways, and city streets. We provide transit services such as the inter-city rail network, and bus services throughout the state. As well as we also provide services that help provide electricity, waste collection, and city sanitation as well as many more services that keep the state running in tip-top shape.

It's important to note that none of the public works agencies within the state are considered emergency responders such as law enforcement officials or fire department personnel. When it comes to interacting with emergency services while on the job, you are required to listen to them as they have the authority. However, if an emergency responder is trying to get past a blocked road that is actively under construction, then they do not have the authority to go past the barricades.

Props, Auxiliary Warning Lights, and Signage Use

Props/Signage & Traffic Control

There are several ways that you can spawn props for your scenes. The first way is through Menyoo's object spawner. The second way is a little bit easier, all you gotta do is type /prop in the chat and it will give you a menu that has a large variety of ready-to-use props.

Traffic Control became a whole lot easier with the implementation of the traffic control menu. All you need to do is type /trafficmenu which will open the menu giving you the options to enable/disable traffic nodes, set speed restrictions, and set restricted zones which will have the AI flee the area. Additionally, you can also set a keybind to open the menu in Settings > Keybinds > FiveM keybinds.

Vehicle Warning Lights Usage

The use of warning lights on your vehicle should only be positioned in a way that would protect you and your coworkers while working on the side of the roadway. Using the warning lights to move traffic over while driving is prohibited, using the warning lights to go through red lights and stop/yield signs is also prohibited.

Shutting Down Roadways

Shutting Down Roadways

When you shut down roadways, you should do so in a manner that does not interrupt the flow of traffic too much. If you do need to close the roadway then you should do so in a matter that doesn't disrupt the flow of traffic by the use of road closure signs, detour signs, notices of the closures via Bleeter, and any other means including but not limited to using the /trafficmenu to redirect AI traffic away from your scene.

When the time comes to shut down the roadway, there are multiple ways that you can go about it in order to cause the least disruptions to traffic. The first way that you can go about doing so is by shutting down the roadway during the night and re-opening it during the daytime hours. The second way is to do it at any time of day but by only closing half the road at a time which allows traffic to still flow through one side by the use of flaggers controlling who can go through in order to avoid any sort of collision. Lastly, another way you can close down a road is by doing a full shutdown during any time of day to do repairs if the repairs are either urgently needed, are going to go across more than 1 day which won't allow traffic through during daytime due to hazards, or if the crews need to work nonstop to fix the issue such as a pipeline bursting under the roadway causing it to flood the road, etc. There may be some more reasons as to why a road would need to be worked on that are not mentioned on this page.

Private Contractors

The Differences Between Public Works Agencies & Private Contractors

There are several differences between Public Works Agencies and Private Contractors.

The main difference between Public Works Agencies and Private Contractors is that Private Contractors can only operate on private land that they are contracted by the person/business to operate on whereas Public Works Agencies have a lot broader range of areas they can operate on such as government property, public roadways, etc depending on the tasks/responsibilities of the specific agency/department.
